Dubaishipping

Dubai, on a shoot for Brown McFarlane showing the useful positioning and advantages of this Middle Eastern state for steel supplies to the rapidly expanding economies of the East

SPLPowerbiofuel

This is a shot of the Cotham power station as part of a series on biofuels. John Strawson grows short rotation coppiced willow here and it's burnt in this coal fired generator. SRC is becoming a profitable crop in Nottinghamshire and other areas and an increasing number of new and old buildings, particularly in the public sector, are being warmed with wood. An interesting development.

MushroomPremierBawtry

Premier mushrooms are the UK's largest grower of organic mushrooms, and this is how the compost starts out life. The process of growing, in controlled conditions, requires the most remarkable attention to detail, far more than I could possibly have imagined.

Berchulesrocketman

This man lets off the rockets at the San Marco fiesta. Cigarette in mouth, a pretty significant amount of armoury on his shoulder, just nicely surrounded by helpless children. I love the Spanish approach to Health and Safety!

AcequiaBerchules

Hiking the mountains of the Sierra Nevada for a series on walking and working in the Alpujarras, we had a great trek up from Berchules to the Junta de las Rios, even though the track as laid out by the local people inexplicably stops just by a farm. So we carried on up wards and made a beautiful traverse of the eastern hills by taking the acequia from the Junta de los Rios (lovely waterfall and clean snow melt water) back to El Gordo and down to Berchules. Great hotel there, Hotel los Berchules where Wendy, Alejandro and Andrew will make your walking and stay extremely enjoyable.

Zaharasandtractors

Travelling again, this time across Spain . From Tarifa to shoot the vast number of wind turbines growing there by the Atlantic Ocean, then to Cazorla national park, the Sierra Nevada, Almeria Province and back to the Cabo de Gata Almeria seems to be a growing area, vast plastic greenhouses fill the landscape and suck up the diminishing supplies of ground and mountain water to feed the northern countries with greens and tomatoes in the winter.. Some people even want to live there!. The British diseases of drunken and abusive children in the schools and on the streets is spreading down to Spain, and you wonder if the food and a changing culture of long work hours for both parents is affecting them badly. The shot above is of Zahara de los Atunes below Cadiz, wind turbines behind - the sand drifts and has to be restored - it's windy here.

Southwell Minster Choir, for a new recruitment brochure - and the web site

AlamyAC31

Windturbine, save the world from rapacious gas guzzling power stations, planes, central heating, airconditioning, Americans, Chinese. Actually, I think they are wonderful but there is so much money tied up in the alternative energy markets that I sometimes wonder if we are being conned. Anyway, buy it here.

Huletts Aluminium, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa

Pyrotekcast1sm

Apart from the pleasure of waking to the sound of the Indian Ocean crashing on the shore below my bedroom, we had a great reception at Huletts. Gerbrand, Gus and Eric gave us really excellent interviews for our clients' products and took time to get us in place for each process in between interviews. This is a view showing part of the plant, Richard is lurking down there on the right shooting TF bags.

Garlic

Glorious stuff, garlic. Fresh, organic - just lifted from an autumn sowing, what could be better?

Diaz1

Diazepam - image designed to show nerves and the drug in context. Not real nerves, of course, but my interpretation! Shot for the Science Photo Library.

FibreOptics6

An abstract image of fibre optics for the Science Photo Library. They are so ephemeral that a straight shot can't do justice to them. I love the way light folds through and round.

Capileiramist1

Capileira, high in the Sierra Nevada. The mist rolling in from the Mediterranean is a common sight here, often blanketing the Poqueira valley for a week or more. Mulhacen, Spain's highest mountain, lies behind the town, feeding snowmelt into the hydro plant above to supply power.
